The business itself
The most obvious first step is identifying the business you’re planning to start. Most people start a business on an idea that they always had. Even these ideas need to be brainstormed and you need to identify the pro and cons. For people who have no idea what to start a brainstorming session is needed to identify what you will enjoy and be committed to work on. This will be your most important decision because it will be the one you will have to stick with.
Making a business plan
A business plan is important because it will help you plan out your business. This plan sets the foundation for your business. The plan usually consists of what need the business is catering to, who are the potential customers, goals of the business, capital required, financing and sustainability are some of the questions that need to be set down on the plan. The plan may sometimes include ERM system to manage and control risks of the business as well.
Financing the business
Some people may have saved up money to start their business but for those who don’t there are many options out there such as receiving a loan from the bank, venture capital, investors and even crowd funding have become popular nowadays. The financing will be different from business to business. Some startups may require very large capital but some can manage with little or no capital at all.
Some people may plan to start the business at home or property owned by a friend or family. This means the costs will be low. Most people may have to rent a property. When renting a property be sure to find a place with close access to your clients. You may have to be aware of the zoning laws which bring us to the next topic.
The business goals should stay within legal guidelines and laws. There should be effective compliance management and respect for the rule of law. To stay within these guidelines would also require the business to be registered and permits and licenses to be acquired. Different businesses have different guideline and permits, therefore always be aware what category your business may fall under and obtain all the necessary licenses and permits accordingly.
Building the team
Unless this is a one man business you may need to build a team. Be sure you hire the right people for the right job. Show respect and treat your employees with care because the business will go a long way if your employees and determined and motivated.

Other facts to keep in mind are the branding and advertising for recognition and get an insurance policy out to protect you and employees. Starting a business is definitely a risk but once you have everything going right all the risks would become reward.
